After birth (Post Partum)

After they cleaned her and wrapped her in blankets, they handed her to me. I watched her face for a moment and then the nurse helped me to get her latched to my breast. She latched beautifully to my left breast and ate for about twenty minutes. I then took her off to burp her and switch breasts. She then would not latch to my right breast at all. The nurse said that was fine that she may be full now and to just start on that breast next time. I was so tired that I asked them to take Bella to the nursery for a while. They wheeled her out and my labor nurse said that she would come back in thirty minutes when the epi wore off and we would move to the private room. I had fought off the happy shot as long as I could. I was out like a light for two hours! When the nurse came in after I woke, she helped me to clean up and change my gown. We then made my way back to my private room. After getting settled back in, I sent my mom for Bella.
I enjoyed this time with my little one. It was only a minor thing to adjust my sleeping schedule to hers. I was very disappointed in myself though. I had really wanted to breastfeed my lil one but for some reason my right breast was not producing anything at all and my left one didn't produce very much. So formula it was! I enjoyed every minute I had with my daughter those first few days. She stayed with me the entire time we were in the hospital. Only making trips to the nursery for check-ups and then return to me!
The first night I had her all to myself. The next day, her father decided to show up with his mother. They stayed for about two hours and left. Some of my family also showed up. Then I had Bella all to myself again!
The next day her father came back and brought her a pack of diapers, a bottle of soap and shampoo, a snowsuit, and an infant head rest for the carseat. They stayed for a couple of hours and left. I got to go home that day! We left the hospital around 1:30 that day. And so began the long journey of being a single mother....
